"Off Comes the Burqua" After the atrocities of 9/11 we began our mission to
understand the reason our countries were now closely involved. I couldn't help
but feel sorrow and empathy for the women of Afghanistan who existed under
the repressive policies of the Taliban. They were without basic rights such as
property ownership, the right to an education, access to modern healthcare and
a voice in their government. Through this emotional time with concern for these
women of Afghanistan I created this piece to commemorate many of the women
regaining their rights as the Taliban fled much of the country. SOLD Nov. 2002
